About Us

The Charlotte Flute Choir is a group of professional and high-level amateur flutists who perform throughout the greater Charlotte area. In addition to playing many of the typical instruments found in a flute ensemble (piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute), the choir also enjoys featuring the E-flat soprano flute, B-flat flute, and several other woodwinds in their concert repertoire.

Members of the flute choir include professional flutists, a professional oboist, an airline captain, a dentist, a professor of mathematics, a chemical engineer, a registered nurse, a staff sergeant of the 208th Army Band, a colonel in the NC Army National Guard, several public school educators, and many others.

Conductor, David Mills, joined the flute choir in 2018. Mills served as Principal Tubist for the Charlotte Symphony for 35 years, and Principal Librarian for 23 years. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Tuba Performance from the University of Miami, and continued his graduate music education at the Manhattan School of Music and the Institute for Advanced Musical Studies, Montreux, Switzerland. Mills has conducted the NCSA Wind Ensemble and the NC Dance Theatre, and served as Music Director for the Charlotte Youth Orchestra and the Charlotte Festive Brass.

In 2018, the flute choir performed at Brightmore of South Charlotte, Brookdale Carriage Club, Carillon Assisted Living, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Southminster, and Windsor Run. The group also provided musical entertainment for the Southern Christmas Show.
